Privacy Policy

Bytwise is a restaurant and cafe discovery app operated by AutomateXpo ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Bytwise website, progressive web app, or Android app, why we collect it, and how you can control it. It applies wherever you use Bytwise, including the Play Store app, which is the same service wrapped in an Android shell.

Information we collect

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address, a username, and your city. Your password is handled by our authentication provider (Supabase) and is never stored by us in plain text.

Content you create. Reviews, ratings, saved spots, visited spots, follows, uploaded photos, and any spots you add to the platform.

Location. Your profile city is self-reported. If you grant location permission in your browser or on your device, we use your device's GPS position to show nearby spots and calculate distance. We do not store a history of your precise location.

Push notification data. If you turn on notifications, your browser or device registers a push subscription (an endpoint URL and encryption keys) with a push service such as Firebase Cloud Messaging. We store this so we can deliver alerts you've opted into, like a new spot opening in your city.

Cookies. We use cookies to keep you logged in, remember preferences like your selected city, and measure how the site is used. Advertising partners, including Google, also set cookies to show ads, as explained below.

Usage data. We use Google Analytics to understand how people use Bytwise in aggregate, page views, general engagement, and similar metrics. This does not include your name or email.

How we use this information

• Operate core features: showing spots, saving favorites, posting reviews, and running badges, Bytscore, and coupons.
• Send you the notifications you've explicitly opted into, by email or push.
• Keep the platform secure and prevent abuse.
• Understand usage patterns so we can improve the app.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Who we share data with

We use a small set of service providers to run Bytwise, each only processing what they need to do their job:

• Supabase - database, authentication, and file storage.
• Cloudinary - hosting and delivery of uploaded photos.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging and other browser push services - delivering push notifications.
• Google Analytics - aggregate usage statistics.
• Vercel - application hosting.
• Google AdSense - showing ads on the website.

Advertising and cookies

Bytwise uses Google AdSense to show ads. Ads help keep Bytwise free, and they never affect ratings, reviews or city guide rankings.

• Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to Bytwise and other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to Bytwise and other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.
• Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before personalized ads or advertising cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some features, like staying logged in, need them to work.

Your choices

You can turn spot-alert notifications and push notifications on or off at any time from your profile. You can delete individual reviews or photos you've posted, and you can request full account deletion or a copy of your data by emailing support@bytwise.space. We'll act on deletion requests within a reasonable time.

Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal information from our active systems, aside from what we're required to keep for legal or fraud-prevention reasons.

Children's privacy

Bytwise is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
